A SCARBOROUGH company is set play a key role in broadcasting an international mountain biking championship to viewers across the globe.
IT firm C>Ways Ltd, which is based in Wykeham, has landed a contract to provide wireless Internet coverage of the 30km UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Cup at Dalby Forest on Saturday April 24 and Sunday April 25.
The company has been charged with rigging up the technology to allow riders, teams, and the 5,000 expected visitors to access internet coverage during the event, and will also set up 12 television cameras and 50 media desks to results and pictures to all corners of the world.
Services Manager Bill Emmerson said the group were thrilled to have been awarded the contract and were looking forward to being part of a historic event.
“This is a very big thing for the Scarborough area and we are delighted to have been chosen to be part of the first world championship mountain biking competition to be held in the UK.”
“It is a prestigious honour for us and we have had to carry out a number of reccy’s to see the feasibility of it because it is very difficult terrain up there.”
“It is set to push us to the limit because the forest covers more than 40,000 square metres and previous attempts to provide internet access have proven extremely difficult, but were are looking forward to it.”
Organisers have confirmed the championship is set to go ahead despite fears that leading riders from across the world could be grounded by the volcanic ash crisis.
